John Drew
John Drew is Director of Staff Experience and Engagement at NHSEI, and part of the leadership team of the People Directorate. His previous role was Director of Improvement and Culture at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
In his present role he is responsible for health and wellbeing, staff engagement and temporary staffing across NHS England. He is also the director with lead responsibility for the delivery of the People Plan, and is currently also leading work nationally on the ‘people recovery’ after the pandemic, and ensuring that is well integrated with service recovery. All of these strands contribute to delivering the People Promise, which is the 5 year aspiration to make the NHS the best place to work and embedding a more compassionate and inclusive culture. The staff survey will be refreshed in 2021 to align with the People Promise, so that we can judge what progress we are making based on what the people who work in the NHS are telling us.
John is married to a teacher, has three grown up daughters, two cats and a 1970 Morris Minor pickup. He lives in Worcester, where he runs a lot to keep fit in body and mind – including at parkrun.
